Govt. to face another test as Double Bed Room distribution gain momentum

After the cash relief distribution muddle – that led the ruling TRS party to taste a bitter experience in a recently held GHMC election, the government has to go through another litmus test soon with distribution of double bedroom houses among the poor gained momentum.

According to the latest official data, the construction of total 1784 houses at 8 locations were completed out of which 1232 houses were handed over to beneficiaries at Singam Cheruvu Thanda, Syed Sab Ka Banda, Khidki Bood Ali Shah, Chittaramma Basti, Yerukala Macharamma Basthi, Ziyaguda, Kattelamandi and Ghode Ki Khabar areas.

Government has proposed to construct one lakh double bedroom houses in the state with a project cost of Rs. 8,598.58 crore and introduced its ambitious dignity housing project for poor people. To execute the project around 111 locations (around 57 in GHMC limits and 71 in neighbouring districts such as Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy) were identified.

In GHMC limits there are a total 14673 houses are under different levels of construction while remaining are being raised in surrounding districts.

“As per the tentative schedule there are a total 1143 houses at 7 different locations are ready for inauguration on 20th December while construction of another 20,980 houses will be completed at 15 different locations by the end of this month. However, we will be able to complete another 76093 houses by the end of year 2021 to achieve the target of one lakh houses,” official sources informed.

To complete the mammoth task, the GHMC needs balance funds to the tune of Rs.3,757.88 crore which is a great challenge ahead for the government since the relationship has fallen out between the state and the centre after the GHMC results.

Out of total project cost of Rs.8,598.58 crore, the sources added that the Housing department released total Rs.5,956.71 crore and the same was spent on the execution of the project as of now while bills to the tune of 150 crores is pending. There is an urgent need of remaining funds to the tune of Rs.3,757.88 crore to complete the project.

However, as per the conservative estimation there are around four lakhs applications so far received from the people only in GHMC limits that according to the officials are subjected to verification.
