The Tribunal has said the reports have made it clear that the sand was mined illegally in the Godavari River. It asked the State Government as to how 4.10 crore cubic metre of sand was mined without any environmental clearances. The State Government told the Tribubal that it had mined the sand to implement several welfare programs in the State. It wondered as to how the mining was being done at Medigadda which was completed recently. It also asked whether there was any law in the State to regulate the sand mining before adjourning the matter till September 26. (NSS)
