Headless Minority Commission failing in addressing Muslim issues

The so-called sincere intentions of the Telangana Government has been exposed when it comes to releasing the budget for the educational and economical development of the Muslim community in the state during the last eight years.

The seriousness of the government towards addressing the Muslims issues can be scaled the way the Telangana State Minority Commission has been run during the last eight years.

Needless to say that the  minority commission was formed in the year 2018, almost four years after the formation of Telangana state in the year 2014 that too for a single tenure during the last eight years.

The already existing body formed under United Andhra Pradesh was sent into hibernation for four years after the formation of Telangana state despite knowing the fact that how important role the Minority commission plays in safeguarding the constitutional and democratic rights of the Minorities.

It was in the year 2018 when the commission was formed for the first time that too after an outrage from within the Muslim community.

A new body consisting of Chairman Mohd.Qamaruddin, a Vice Chairman and six other members was formed by the government in January 2018. However, the tenure of the commission came to an end in January 2021 and left the body completely paralyses thereafter without the hope of revival.

People, from minority community often approach commission for redress of their issues pertaining to harassment and injustice being meted out to them while serving in government offices as well as procrastination on part of the official in clearing the pleas seeking benefits under various welfare schemes of the government.

In several cases, the minority commission summoned many district collectors and IAS officers while addressing the grievances and issued instructions as was conferred with such an authority. Out of a total 447 pleas being received 337 have been resolved by the commission.

However, in the absence of a fully active minority commission, members from minority communities are facing hardships and making rounds of the government offices to see their issues resolved.

Though the TRS government took much pain to appoint heads, hands and feets in the BC, SC, ST and Women Commissions in the state, it turned a complete blind eye towards reviewing the Minority commission, the only hope of Muslims to get their issues addressed.
