Heavy rains once again create chaos in Hyderabad

Heavy overnight rains once again created chaos in parts of Hyderabad and its outskirts, inundating roads and low-lying areas.

People in the worst-affected areas spent a sleepless night as water from overflowing drains and lakes managed to enter their homes.

In a few places, two-wheelers and three-wheelers were washed away by rainwater. A man was washed away with his two-wheeler in the Boorabanda area, but locals were able to save him.

Heavy rains in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as on the outskirts, caused long traffic jams past midnight.

The havoc continued on Thursday, with roads in some areas still under water, cutting off vital connections. Commuters from the city’s northeast were stuck because some Local Military Authorities (LMA) roads in Secunderabad remained inundated.

There was a lot of water on several major roads in Secunderabad, Begumpet, and Erragadda. Borabanda, Punjagutta, Basheerbagh, Mehdipatnam, Lakdi ka Pul, Himayat Nagar, and other places are included.

Water stagnation beneath the Erragadda and Prakash Nagar Metro stations exacerbated traffic congestion on the busy roads.

Rainwater entered homes in Rasoolpura, Begumpet. In the affected areas, water also filled the cellars of several apartment buildings.

Rainwater washed away two-wheelers and auto rickshaws in Borabanda. Locals rescued a man who was being washed away on his two-wheelers.

Massive flooding was also reported in Jeedimetla, Yousufguda, and Sri A Krishna Nagar, as well as in a few colonies in Alwal. Petbasheerabad and Medchal People were going through a lot of trouble.

Water from overflowing Gondlapochampalli lake in Medchal had inundated the road, halting vehicular traffic. A school in Shameerpet was completely submerged.

According to officials, the Balanagar area in the Kukatpally constituency received 10 cm of rain in just one hour.

Meanwhile, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs were receiving heavy inflows following heavy rains in the catchment areas.

Authorities opened four gates at Osman Sagar to allow floodwaters to flow into the Musi River. Two Himayat Sagar gates were also opened to let excess water out.

During the current season, parts of Hyderabad and its outskirts have been inundated frequently.

Meanwhile, a person washed away in the Nagarkurnool district last night as a result of heavy rains. Flood water entered the village of Amarabad, causing the incident.
