Herd of pigs roam aisle of Karnataka’s covid hospital

Keeping the hospital premises untidy is one thing and going ahead to become least concerned about wild animals roaming aimlessly in the corridors, another.

In a shocking incident, a herd of pigs was seen leisurely running in a COVID-19 hospital in Karnataka with their entire clan, while the health facility’s authorities did absolutely nothing about it.

The squealing and grunting of the animals did not seem to deter the staff who went past them, continuing their day-to-day activities. This highlights the sheer negligence of hygiene on the part of the hospital management and also hints at the kind of ill-treatment being served to the patients getting treated here.

This extremely unacceptable condition of the hospital was brought to light when a user shared a video on social media. It was reportedly recorded on the 15th of July at the Kalaburgai COVID hospital of Karnataka and has gone viral since then. When the hospital meant to facilitate treatment with utmost precautions, care, and cleanliness to the patients turned into an amusement park for the pigs, it saw a lot of anguish from people who watched the video. Users blamed the management for not keeping their staff vigilant and rather letting them be unbothered by the incident.

Expressing his concerns after watching the video, Local Congress legislator Priyank Karge alleged that the healthcare facilities in the area were being “poorly managed”.

Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu has now instructed hospital authorities to be cautious of such incidents and rather ensure that these don’t happen again in the future.

Gulbarga, or now known as Kalaburagi, has reported 2,674 cases until now. The nation’s first COVID-19 related fatality was reported from this town. Karnataka recorded a single-day spike of over 4500 cases, half of which were reported solely from its capital city, Bengaluru, and close to a hundred deaths. The total number of people affected by the infection of the fatal virus rose up to 59,652 in the state.

Recently, Mr. Sriramulu had said that “only God can help save us” from the deadly disease, after seeing the spike in the cases in the pandemic.

“Worldwide the number of coronavirus cases is increasing. All of us should be alert. Whether you are a member of the ruling party or in the opposition, rich or poor… the virus doesn’t discriminate,” the 48-year-old BJP leader told the media.

However, his reactions led him to trouble. The opposition party leaders remarked that the minister’s comments referred to his perception of BS Yediyurappa government’s poor abilities to handle the tense COVID-19 situation.

With the world trembling under the crisis, such horrific incidences bring to light the quality of treatment and services being offered by the hospitals to the citizens of the country and the probable recovery and outcome keeping in mind this unbothered attitude by the staff and management.
