Highways in Hyderabad to remain closed for Shab-e-Qadar

According to the traffic police here, all flyovers in Hyderabad city (except Greenland’s Flyover, PVNR Expressway and Langer House flyover) and PVNR MARG/Necklace road will be closed after 10:00 pm in connection with Shab-e-Qadar (Jagne ki Raat) and to avert any untoward incident/road accidents.

The general public and commuters in the city have been asked to be aware of the restrictions listed above and to cooperate with the Hyderabad traffic police. In the event of any inconvenience while commuting, please call the police traffic helpline at 9010203626, a press release from the police said.

This Ramzan, Eid-al-Fitr is likely to fall on April 22 or 23, depending on the sighting of the moon. The last Friday of the holy month is an important night for Muslims (according to Islam), as it is believed that the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad on that night. Many Muslims stay up all night and offer special prayers.

However, many youngsters over the years have taken advantage of the opportunity to just zoom on their bikes (which is considered unruly by others who point out that such auspicious nights should not be misused), due to which the traffic police have imposed such restrictions.

The police have tightened security in the city in preparation for important religious events of the Muslim calendar.

Shab-e-Qadar will be observed on Tuesday night, followed by Jumat ul Vida (the last Friday of Ramzan) and the Eid ul Fitr festival on the weekend.

Telangana police higher-ups urged officers to stay vigilant during the coming week to prevent any nefarious plans of unsocial elements from disrupting city peace. The police are concerned that miscreants would try to incite disturbance by taking advantage of large crowds.
