Hijab row: “Court should have punish officials, teachers”Bhanu Pratap

As the protests for and against wearing ‘Hijab’ in educational institutions blown out of proportion and pushed the Karnataka state into an emergency-like situation, the intellectuals are linking it with elections in five states of the country especially in Uttar Pradesh for which the battle lines between mainstream parties have already been drawn.

While reacting on Hijab Row, The Supreme Court Advocate Bhanu Pratap Singh said, “As barely two days left for polling in Uttar Pradesh after the campaign finally came to an end, the saffron party will try its best to ferment the chaos and get the political benefit out of it.”

“The constitution of India gave all the communities the right to wear the costume according to their customs. However, what we are coming across now is Muslims girls wearing hijab are not being allowed to enter the college premises which are against the constitution,” he contended.

By now, he said, the court ought to have been taken the suo-motu cognisance of the matter and have issued order placing the officials of the entire district administration such as collector, SP etc into suspension besides seizing the college and sending the protesting students and teachers behind the bar by booking FIR against them for barring the hijab cladding girl students from entering into educational institutions. “This way the court should have sent a message to people causing communal disturbance,” the advocate argued.

Blaming that the whole game was plotted by the BJP, he said “The saffron party does not have anything good in its cache for the people except division of the society on communal lines simply chanting India-Pakistan slogans all the time only to get political mileage.”

However, the advocate said that the people have realised that this party has nothing to do with their real concerns and just wants to play politics by dividing people on communal lines to suit its political goals.

Pointing out towards a viral video of Ahmedabad in Gujarat wherein 500 to 600 people were seen chased out from their village by the people of RSS and Bajrang Dal, Bhanu Pratap Singh said “Hijab is not the lone incident that turned into a widespread outrage bringing the two communities at loggerhead. It is a part of the same political plot as five states are going to face elections while the hustling in Uttar Pradesh is just concluded.”

While presaging that the BJP will not succeed in its evil designs of manufacturing votes out of hijab row, he said, “I am hopeful that the Karnataka High Court will take this issue seriously and punish the perpetrators responsible for spreading unrest in the state thereby sending a strong message to them.”

Reacting over the reported incident of disrespecting the national flag issue during a protest at the government First Grade College in Shivamogga district, he asked “What is more treacherous than this act itself? They caused disrespect to the national flag that, if really happens, will attract sedation charges against those involved in the incident,” he argued.
