Himayath Sagar Lake still has a gap of over 4 feet to reach full capacity

The post monsoon intermittent rains are lashing the city and several districts across the state since the last two days, but the two most grandiose lakes such as Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar are yet to receive inflows in a copious volume to reach full capacity.

Though the lakes have begun receiving the inflows from catchment areas due to incessant rains since Monday, it leaves a slightest impact over the storage capacity in both the reservoirs.

While the Osman Sagar Lake receives 0.132 TMC of inflows during the last 24 hours from catchments areas like Janwada, Balkapur and Shankarpalli in Vikarabad district the Himayath Sagar Lake, though in less volume has also witnessed inflows from its feeding channels like Moinabad, Shadnagar, Amdapur and Nagarguda etc.

According to official statistics, the present storage level at Himayath Sagar Lake stood at 1759.40 feet being recorded on 14th July while the same stood at 1758.75 feet on 13th July a day earlier when the showers began to impact the lake which has a full holding capacity of 1763.50 feet.

This means at least 0.65 feet of increase in the capacity has been witnessed during the last 24 hours which is a comparatively equal amount of inflow being recorded during the last one week. The lake has witnessed an increase of 0.7 feet during the last one week when the capacity was recorded 1758.70 on 7th July 2021.

However, still there is a wide gap of around 4.1 feet to replete the lake which has a full capacity level of 1763.50 feet.

On the other hand, the Osman Sagar Lake too displayed some upbeat spirit when it comes to receiving inflows from upstream areas like Shadnagar, Amdapur and Nagarguda etc although in a less quantity. According to official statistics, the lake has received 0.132 TMC of inflows as a result of copious rains during the last 24 hours in catchment areas.

Monsoon showers coupled with inflows from catchment areas brought a slightest increase of 0.8 feet in the storage capacity during the last 24 hours in the lake. While the present storage capacity stood at 1783.25 feet in the lake being recorded on 14th July, the same stood at 1782.45 feet on 13th July in Osman Sagar with a full tank capacity of 1790 @ 3.9 TMC feet.

Officials overseeing the lakes are of the view that there is a great possibility of lifting the crest gates again this time if the rains continue to hit the ground in the following days as there is still a long way to go before the rainy season comes to an end to say the least.
