Historic Shahpur Fort of Telangana Collapses

Hyderabad: An enormous portion of the memorable Shahpur fort in Telangana’s Jangaon region collapsed on Thursday.

Three houses were harmed under the rubble of the shahpur fort. In any case, nobody was harmed as the occupants had abandoned the house after cracks in the fort enlarged after hefty downpours during the last couple of days.

A video of the fortress‘ breakdown became famous online via web-based media. Local people can be heard shouting as the weak structure collapsed.

Jangaon police department and district administration affirmed the development. The episode occurred around 7.30 a.m. There are no fatalities, police said.

Famous as Qila Shahpur, the hillfort was situated in Raghunathapalli Mandal of the Jangaon region.

It was constructed in the 1690s by Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud, who alongside with almost 4,000 men had attacked Warangal in 1708 after the passing of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

It is believed that the fortress was exploded by the forces drove by Dil Khan, at the time deputy governor Hyderabad. Papanna Goud later reconstructed the fort.

As indicated by history specialist, Papanna Goud and his men were besieged multiple times while occupying the fort. He was caught and executed in 1710.

The branch of Archaeology and Museums (DAM) was informed of the circumstance. Its In-control Director Narayana B revealed: “I am going to Jangaon now and will be able to tell the exact situation once I reach.”

In the recent past, the DAM had taken up protection work at the fort and a CR wall was built. A before and after picture of this preservation work is accessible on the internet.
