Hit & run case- Punjab inspector runs car over two women; one dead

In a horrific hit and run case, a car being driven by a police inspector ran over two women in Punjab. The accident led to the death of one of them while the other woman suffered serious injuries and is being treated at the hospital.

The incident took place on Monday morning in Jalandhar after the driver slammed his car into two young women waiting to cross the road. It was captured by a CCTV camera that unveiled the chilling accident.

In the video, the victims can be seen standing on the road divider waiting for the traffic to slow down so that they can go to the other side of the road. However, when they attempt to cross the road, a white Maruti Brezza rushes towards them with great speed. Seeing this, the women move back to avoid getting hit. Nevertheless, inspector Amrit Pal Singh drives his vehicle into them and speeds away with no acknowledgement of the murder he just did.

Both the women fall hard to the ground and suffer critical wounds. One of them, identified as Navjot Kaur, died on the spot. She was an employee at a local Hyundai car showroom in Jalandhar. The other woman is getting treated at a hospital.

The Monday morning incident’s video of the Jalandhar Cantonment area was out within minutes of the accident. A massive group of people were seen protesting on the Jalandhar-Phagwara national highway after the 8.30 am incident killed one and left him critically injured, fighting for her life in the hospital.

Parents, relatives and supporters of the victims sat on the highway and blocked the incoming traffic. They demanded strict action against the cop who committed the crime. Videos show heart-wrenching glimpses of the families mourning the sudden loss of the young woman. A visibly shocked and grieving mother of Navjot Kaur, Tejinder Kaur, said, “My daughter left for work in the morning and was crossing the road near a railway crossing when the car hit them. The sub-inspector should be charged with murder.”

According to the police, the accused inspector has been arrested. But there is no confirmation regarding the filing of an FIR against him. It also hasn’t been ascertained what the cause of the crime was. Whether the accused lost control of the car or was under the influence of any substance hasn’t been clear yet as he needs to undergo a medical examination to confirm it.

However, local residents of the area refused to make way for the traffic and continued protesting. They demanded the police to charge Amrit Pal Singh with murder charges.
