Hyderabad: 85-year-old spends night inside bank after staff locks premises

An 85-year-old resident of Jubilee Hills was forced to spend a night in a bank locker room here after the bank staff accidentally locked him inside the premises and left for the night.

On Monday, after the staff locked the premises and left the bank, the man had to stay in the bank for 18 hours.

The incident took place at a Union Bank of India branch in the Jubilee Hills area and came to light when police tracked him down and rescued him on Tuesday.

At around 4.30 pm on Monday, V. Krishna Reddy, a resident of Jubilee Hills Road Number 67, went to the bank for some work and opened his bank locker. In the midst of his busy activities, the bank employees locked the door to the bank, leaving the elderly man inside.

According to the Jubilee Hills police, the bank’s security personnel locked the room without noticing him and then left for the day.

Krishna Reddy’s family members began searching for him late in the evening when he failed to return home. After he had not been found, they approached the police. He was traced to the bank after the police examined the CCTV footage captured at the Jubilee Hills check post.

The elderly man, a diabetic patient, was discovered in the locker room. The man had to suffer through the whole night.

Krishna Reddy, who also reportedly suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, has been taken to a hospital.
