There was some tension at the Minister’s Quarters at Banjara Hills earlier today when Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad activists staged a protest.
A handful of activists from the ABVP tried barging into Minister’s Quarters, demanding the State government reimburse fees and scholarships to students which allegedly had been pending for a while.
Several police officers guarding the complex prevented them from entering the complex and took them into custody. Each of them was taken to Banjara Hills police station.
Recently, a group of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad student members had also protested against the alleged seat blocking scam in front of the Directorate of Medical Education office.
ABVP’s Telangana state secretary Praveen Reddy has asked for an investigation by the CID and that the culprits involved be arrested.
Earlier in April, members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad claimed that technical colleges’ infrastructure was not being improved and therefore no fee hike should be implemented for the next block years of 2022-25.
According to them, the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) revised fees without auditing finances, verifying faculty, and analyzing the basic infrastructure in engineering and technical colleges during the last block period (2019-22).
“We oppose the revision of fees charged by technical colleges for their courses. The fee revision only benefits management. The most affected students are those from middle-class families, said K Praveen Reddy.
Fees for engineering courses have increased from Rs 35, 000 to Rs 1.35 lakh since state formation, he said.

Similarly, members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad had also staged a protest at the administrative building of Osmania University against the decision of hiking the fees for various courses in December of last year.
The protesters argued that State universities were meant to provide quality education, but the decision to hike fees leads to the commodification of education.
