During a routine search at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Friday, the Hyderabad Customs Department found 259 kilos of gold valued Rs 15.76 lakhs. The gold was hidden in cream boxes in the checked luggage of a traveller arriving from Kuwait.
Customs personnel are conducting additional investigations following the incident. This seizure is part of RGIA’s continuous efforts to reduce smuggling.
Only a month ago, RGIA Customs officers busted a smuggling ring, arresting four passengers and confiscating eight kilograms of smuggled gold worth Rs 4.86 crores in four distinct cases. The gold confiscated included chopped bars and gold paste hidden in various ways.
The Hyderabad Customs Department remains diligent in its attempts to fight gold smuggling and other illegal activities.
