Hyderabad Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Drug Supply: Licences Cancelled, Arrests Made

The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and the Drugs Control Administration conducted a coordinated search on 15 medical businesses and permanently cancelled the licences of three chemists. Ganesh Medical in Koti, Akshaya in Nampally, and Biosphere Enterprises in Amberpet had their licences revoked for illegally supplying medications without a prescription.

This action was conducted in response to a case filed in February against 15 individuals who were discovered to be illegally trafficking drugs. The drug control administration detained and put the chemists in jail under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Some of them, though, have just been granted bail.

G Chakravarthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (H-NEW), stated that a supplier named Ganesh Medical was identified as the distributor of unauthorised drugs to medical stores via intermediaries. These medications were then distributed to the general public without proper prescriptions. Following the supplier’s arrest, his confession was transferred to the drug controllers department for additional inquiry.

The drug controllers undertook a detailed investigation, which revealed the market involvement of other regulatory organisations and their networks. They also uncovered medical shops that were not following to different medication supply requirements, such as selling low-quality drugs, failing to keep correct records, storage, and supply, and selling medicines at exorbitant costs.

The licences of eight medical businesses were revoked for a period of 12 to 15 days due to the number of unprescribed and low-quality drugs. This initiative intends to address the region’s improper distribution and sale of pharmaceuticals.
