Hyderabad: Body of a newborn found in a water tank

A 50-day-old newborn girl’s body was found in a water tank at Jagadgirigutta, Hyderabad. The case is under investigation and more details about her death will be revealed once the autopsy report is completed, Jagadgirigutta Inspector P Saidulu said.

According to Hyderabad police, the girl, who has not yet been named, was last seen sleeping beside her parents Rajesh and Jyothi.

Rajesh and Jyothi slept with the child every night, and they did the same on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, however, the couple discovered that the child was missing. Her body was found in front of their house in the water tank after they searched for her.

Rajesh had the child until 3 a.m. on Tuesday before handing her over to Jyothi, according to the police. The newborn was reportedly placed between the couple while they slept. A suspicious death case has been registered and police are investigating every angle.

Hospital fined Rs 60 lakhs for child born with deformities

Fernandez Hospital, Hyderguda, has been fined Rs 60 lakh by District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-II, Hyderabad, for causing a newborn child serious deformities.

The complainant, 29-year-old Peddagalla Shireesha, a resident of Rachalapally, Nagarkurno-ol district, said she went to the hospital frequently during her second pregnancy for periodic health checks.

Despite giving birth by c-section to her first child, doctors at the hospital determined that she was fit for normal delivery.

According to the complaint, Shireesha and her husband Madgula Sudharshan said that the doctors failed to identify Shireesha’s condition, resulting in the newborn sustaining brain injuries leading to cerebral palsy (quadriplegia), remote symptomatic epilepsy, pseudobulbar dysfunction (inability to control facial movements) and other neurological disorders.

They told the Commission that after realizing their mistake, the hospital promised lifelong treatment and support for the child, but failed to deliver on that promise. Shireesha and her husband informed the Commission that they spend Rs 60,000 per month to care for their child.
