Hyderabad businessman loses 25,000 rupees to cyber fraudsters

A businessman from Sultan Bazaar was defrauded of Rs.25,000 by cyber fraudsters. Narsapuram Srinivas Chary, (54) a resident of Koti, reportedly received a text message from an unknown mobile phone number requesting that he update his bank account’s KYC details.

“Believing the message to be genuine, he provided his details and found that an amount of Rs.25,000 had been deducted from his bank account,” Sultan Bazaar police said.

A case has been registered, and an investigation is in progress.

Cyberabad techies make up for 80% of victims of cyber fraud

Techies and tech graduates are the most common victims of scams in Cyberabad, ranging from cryptocurrency to credit card fraud. Of the nearly 70 FIRs in Cyberabad in February, almost 80% of the victims have an IT background.

“It is a myth that educated people are immune to cybercrime. Scammers utilize their abilities to persuade victims to invest in fraudulent schemes, install fake apps that grant remote access or expose personal information such as an OTP. Victims frequently deposit more and more till their accounts are emptied in the hopes of receiving the full amount after believing false assurances “explained a Cyberabad police officer.

For example, a few weeks ago, two IT consultants in their late thirties filed separate police reports saying that they had lost Rs 10.2 lakh and Rs 3.8 lakh, respectively, in a crypto mining app.

While searching for customer service numbers, bank websites, and other information is a common practice, most people neglect to verify it before proceeding, according to a police officer. After losing Rs 1.68 lakh, a 22-year-old quality engineer from Hafeezpet learned this the hard way.
