The Cybercrime police of Hyderabad have issued a cautionary statement to the public, urging vigilance against calls from unknown international numbers. The advisory, released on Tuesday, highlights a surge in fraudulent activities linked to such calls, which pose significant risks to personal data and financial security.
The police identified specific phone numbers associated with these calls, including +94777 455913, +37127913091, +56322553736, +37052529259, and +255901130460. These numbers are traced to country codes from regions such as Latvia (+371), Belarus (+375), Serbia (+381), Chile (+563), Lithuania (+370), and Tanzania (+255).
The scam typically involves a call from these numbers, which is deliberately disconnected after just one ring, creating curiosity for the recipient to call back. However, police warn that doing so could lead to severe consequences, including:
- Theft of personal data such as contact lists, banking information, and credit card details within seconds.
- Compromised SIM cards through unauthorized access, leading to potential misuse and fraudulent activities.
- Unauthorized charges on phone bills and other financial losses.

The advisory also mentioned a rising trend where fraudsters ask victims to dial certain codes, such as Chi90 or Chi09. Calling these numbers could result in SIM card cloning, unauthorized charges, and even legal complications for the victim.
Safety Measures Advised
To safeguard against such scams, the Cybercrime police recommend the following:
- Do not answer calls from unknown international numbers, especially those with suspicious country codes.
- Avoid calling back any number that disconnects without a clear reason.
- Report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or cybercrime helpline.
- Keep your phone updated with the latest security features to protect against unauthorized access.
Officials stress the importance of public awareness in combating these scams. “Fraudsters are constantly evolving their tactics, and vigilance is our best defense,” a Cybercrime police spokesperson said. Citizens are urged to spread the word and educate family and friends about the potential dangers.
