Wrestlers in the city square-off each other once again but this time not to toss each other in the ring but to contest the elections that are scheduled to be held on December 4, at Olympic Bhawan, Fateh Maidan Stadium, Hyderabad.
Almost ten years after the last election was held, a new body of the Hyderabad District Amateur Wrestling Association (HDAWA) is going to form on Sunday for which the polling process will begin from 11.00 am and will continue till 3.00 pm.
There are two panels contesting the elections under the banner of Hyderabad District Amateur Wrestling Association (HDAWA). Both the panels consist of seven members from different wrestling clubs who are about to wrestle for the posts of association from each other on Sunday.
“The renowned wrestler Santosh Bhagath Yadav, three times Andhra Kesari winner, is contesting for the post of President of the Hyderabad District Amateur Wrestling Association (HDAWA), a body mandated to promote wrestling among the youth in the Telangana State,” informed Taher Affari, a wrestling enthusiast and former Publicity Secretary of the Association who fervently campaigning for the election of new body.
Similarly, he said, the young international wrestler Abhimanyu Yadav also throws his hat into the ring to win the post of General Secretary. Likewise, Habeeb Abdullah Jeelani, two times Andhra Kesari winner, is contesting for the post of Treasurer.
The other contenders of this panel include Nandu Lal Yadav contesting for the post of Senior Vice President, Osman Mohammed Khan for Vice President, K.Lingam for Joint Secretary and Mohammed Omer for Organising Secretary.
On the other side, M.Suri Pahelwan is contesting for the post of President, Naser Khulaqhi Pahelwan for General Secretary, Khaled Bamas Pahelwan for Treasurer, J.Shalender Singh, also known as Kalia Pahelwan, is contesting for the post of Senior Vice President, Kiran Yasdav Pahelwan for Vice President, Mohd. Aslam Pahelwan for Organising Secretary and Mahender Singh Pahelwan for the post of Joint Secretary.
The ballot papers will decide the fate of the competitors for which the polling will be held from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm at Olympic Bhawan, L.B.Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday.
“From a total number of 96 Akhadas (wrestling clubs) in the city, two members each are permitted to participate in the voting that accounts for a total 192 votes,” explained Taher Affari.
“The new body will revive the wrestling fervor in the state and promote the sport with a renewed zest beside taking care of the interest of the individual wrestlers associated with the game,” claim Osman Mohammed Khan, nother wrestling enthusiast.
