Hyderabad Hit by Continuous Rainfall, Yellow Alert Issued Amid Traffic Chaos

Since Saturday morning, Hyderabad has been inundated with continuous rainfall, resulting in severe traffic disruptions and extensive waterlogging throughout the city. The persistent downpour has created significant challenges for commuters and local authorities alike.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), the highest recorded rainfall as of 3 p.m. on Saturday was 19.5 mm in Quthbullapur. Other areas with substantial rainfall include Jubilee Hills (19.3 mm), Yousufguda (19 mm), Karvan (18.8 mm), Kukatpally (18.5 mm), Chandrayangutta (18 mm), Moosapet (17 mm), Patancheru (16.8 mm), Rajendranagar (16.5 mm), Khairatabad (15.8 mm), and Goshamahal (15.8 mm).

The relentless rain has led to notable traffic slowdowns, particularly from Mehdipatnam, Rythu Bazar, and Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital towards NMDC. A major disruption occurred when a tree was uprooted near JP Nagar in Miyapur, causing additional delays. To manage the situation, Miyapur Traffic Police and the Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams of GHMC are actively working to facilitate smoother traffic flow. Many commuters reported prolonged delays on the Telugu Thalli flyover, with traffic jams extending to Lakdikapul.

In light of the ongoing weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for Hyderabad and its surrounding areas. The forecast predicts a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rains or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds. The IMD has also cautioned residents about potential water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas, which could exacerbate traffic congestion.

Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay informed about the latest weather updates to navigate the ongoing disruptions effectively.
