Hyderabad: Indian Racing League to offer full refund for race weekend

The Indian Racing League announced on Wednesday that all ticket holders for the Hyderabad Race Weekend on November 19 and 20 would receive a refund. The action comes after the sporting event was abruptly canceled due to a crash and “technical failure.”

The event’s organizers said in a statement that “all attendees will be notified regarding the refund process through email or text message. Your patience and assistance are much valued.”

The Formula E race will be held at the same location in February of next year, and the fourth races will be held there on December 10 and 11. This six-team city-based Indian Racing League, which included both foreign and local drivers, served as a warm-up for the big event.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is constructing spectator galleries made of metal with a seating capacity of 35,000 people at NTR Marg and its vicinity, as well as pedestrian bridges and temporary structures at strategic locations to station emergency rescue teams.

These works are in addition to the preparation of a 2.7-kilometer circuit around Hussain Sagar, PV Narasimha Rao Marg to meet the stringent requirements of the FIA and FE specifications. The Formula E cars, which can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h, race on street circuits – specially black-topped roads, unlike the Formula 1 cars, need to have special tracks.

“Special safety equipment such as tech pro barriers, debris fences and other related track infrastructure is being built around the tracks to address the stringent safety requirements,” said an HMDA official.

The championship will be a testament to Hyderabad’s recognition as a global city, alongside London, Paris, Monaco, and Berlin, among other cities on the race circuit. The event will also demonstrate that Hyderabad is concerned with sustainability and the promotion of EV technologies, which are the foundation of Formula E races.
