Security arrangements made for Bonalu

The police have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure that the city’s Bonalu celebrations run smoothly on Sunday and Monday.

On both days, approximately 4,000 police officers will be deployed in the south zone alone for security purposes, with senior police officials monitoring the proceedings from the Charminar police station.

Special poojas have been performed at the temples since Sunday morning, including the famous Simhavahini Mahankali temple at Lal Darwaza and the Akkanna Madanna temple.

On Monday, a huge procession of ghatams from around 26 temples in the old city will be taken out, while the ‘Matha Ghatam’ of Akkanna Madanna temple will be carried out on an elephant. Sudha Talkies, Lal Darwaza, Shahalibanda, Charminar, Madina Building, Pathergatti, and Nayapul will be included in the procession.

The traditional festival is held during Ashada Masam, the fourth month of the Telugu calendar, which begins in July and lasts until August. The women carry earthen pots decorated with flowers that contain cooked rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves.
