Hyderabad: Man tries to commit suicide over harassment in Jeedimetla

Self-immolation was attempted by a man in Jeedimetla allegedly as a result of harassment by a local corporator. Police said the corporator borrowed money from him as a hand loan and refused to repay it.

During the 2015 municipal elections, a man named Ch. Narasimha Chary (43), who lives with his wife and two daughters in Dwaraka Nagar, reportedly gave a hand loan of Rs.25 lakh to D.Venkatesh Goud, a corporator.

In spite of repeated requests, Goud continued to postpone repayment of the loan, police said. Reports also mentioned that he also refused to pay money at one point and avoided him. After being unable to handle this, Chary set himself on fire on Monday. He was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, he is in stable condition. An investigation is being conducted by the Jeedimetla police.

IIT-Hyderabad student commits suicide

Police reportedly said that a 23-year-old IIT-Hyderabad student committed suicide at a lodge near the institute on Wednesday.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the student jumped to his death from the terrace of the lodge where he was staying temporarily. At the institute, he had completed his BTech degree.

The death follows the recent suspected suicide of a second year MTech student on the institute campus.

The 23-year-old BTech student from Rajasthan had been staying at a lodge near IIT-Hyderabad, police said.

The reason for his extreme action was not immediately revealed. Police are waiting for his parents to arrive.

According to police, a case under Section 174 CrPC (suspicious death) has been filed in response to a complaint filed by lodge staff.

On August 31, a 25-year-old MTech student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his institute room, the police reportedly said.
