As per the latest reports, the Hyderabad traffic police seized the two-wheeler of a man on Friday after discovering he had 92 pending challans in connection with various traffic offences in the city over the last seven years.
The total amount he was due to pay to the traffic police department for his traffic offences was Rs 25,250.
Vikas Kumar was caught near Kushaiguda during a routine vehicle check. He was found driving without a helmet on his Honda Activa.
The police impounded his vehicle and served him with a notice to pay the penalty plus the interest. The Motor Vehicles (MV) Act allows the police to confiscate vehicles with more than ten unpaid challans.

As per the e-challan website, the majority of challans issued in 2014 were for riding without a helmet or wrong parking. Some challans were also related to not wearing a face mask while riding in public places. Some fines were also issued for riding on the wrong side of the road.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police Department is planning to offer fee reductions in an effort to provide relief to those who have yet to pay traffic challans
Hyderabad Joint Commission of Traffic A V Ranganath stated that because the pandemic has pushed many people into economic trouble, an attempt is being made to relieve their burden by granting a fee reduction.
He claimed that unpaid challans in Hyderabad have reached Rs. 600 crore.

Aside from that, a study is being undertaken to assess accident data from the previous 4-5 years. It will be used to determine the approach for reducing accidents.
According to the study conducted so far, the majority of accidents occur at night. To tackle the issue, traffic police are looking for speed guns that function well at night.
The police are also taking steps to reduce drunk driving. Checkpoints are being set up throughout the city in an attempt to catch intoxicated drivers.
