Hyderabad Mayor Takes Action to Improve Streetlight Functionality and Address Concerns

Greater Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has directed the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) agency to improve the functioning of the city’s streetlights. The Mayor voiced concern with the efficiency of LED streetlights and the delayed resolution of issues at a meeting with electrical officials.

During standing committee and council meetings, people and neighborhood corporators voiced their concerns about streetlights. Corporators in the Standing Committee cited issues and deficiencies throughout the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and accused EESL officials of failing to address the concerns presented. Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar emphasised the importance of prompt bill payment and allocating funds solely for GHMC-related activities.

To address the persisting concerns, rapid stock preparation for repairs and the provision of two ladders per circle were asked. To solve the shortage, an order for 3000 70-volt lights was placed, with installation scheduled within two weeks, followed by an additional 3000 bulbs. It was also discovered that the agreement’s provision of keeping a 5% buffer stock had not been met.
