Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) minister, KT Rama Rao, has directed the GMR Airport authorities to donate 48 acres of selected airport property for the building of the Metro Rail depot. He has also directed that designated government properties be transferred to Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd to speed building work.
KTR, who presided over a review meeting on the Airport Metro and other expansion projects, directed the chief secretary to hold coordination meetings to ensure the Airport Metro project’s timely completion. The chief secretary also met with senior government officials to discuss the sanctioning of the BHEL-Lakdikapul and Nagole-LB Nagar (36 km) project, which is expected to cost Rs 9100 crore.

NVS Reddy, Managing Director of Metro Rail, gave a detailed presentation at the conference. KTR urged the finance and MA&UD special chief secretaries to look into alternative funding sources for new metro projects.
KTR directed district collectors in Hyderabad, Medchal, and Sangareddy districts to identify unoccupied government property near current and prospective metro stations for multi-level vehicle parking complexes. He also proposed adding more coaches, increasing feeder services, and improving pathways to double existing metro usage and reduce traffic congestion in the city.
During discussions with Akbaruddin Owaisi, KTR urged the Metro Rail MD to expedite land acquisition and construction in the Old City metro corridor. The intention to extend the railway from Falaknuma to the airport was also discussed.
