In a significant development for daily commuters, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL) has officially announced a hike in Hyderabad Metro fares, which will come into effect from May 17. This marks the first fare revision since the Metro’s launch 7.5 years ago.
The hike follows the recommendations of the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) constituted under Section 34 of the Metro Railways (Operation & Maintenance) Act, 2002, as per directions issued by the Centre on September 5, 2022. The committee, chaired by a former High Court judge, submitted its report on January 25, 2023, outlining a new fare structure aimed at maintaining affordability for passengers while ensuring financial sustainability for Metro operations.
New Fare Structure:
- Minimum fare (up to 2 km): Increased from Rs 10 to Rs 12
- Maximum fare (beyond 24 km): Increased from Rs 60 to Rs 75
Key revised slabs include:
- Up to 4 km: Rs 18
- Up to 9 km: Rs 40
- Up to 15 km: Rs 55
- Up to 21 km: Rs 66
These rates will apply to all Metro corridors across the city starting Friday.

L&TMRHL in a statement thanked passengers for their continued support and explained the fare revision was a necessary step to sustain operations and enhance service quality without compromising on safety or comfort.
“The revised fares are essential to sustain and enhance service quality. We sincerely thank our passengers for their support,” the company said.
The fare adjustment has been made binding as per Section 37 of the Act, following the FFC’s recommendations. Hyderabad Metro, one of the most modern urban transport systems in India, has so far maintained consistent pricing since its launch, making this the first fare increase in nearly eight years.
