Hyderabad: Muslims help perform Hindu man’s last rites

In a heart-warming gesture, Muslim men in the Hyderabad did not hesitate to carry out the last rites of a 23-year-old Hindu man who died of health complications.

This young man was originally from Kolkata, West Bengal. His mother and sister had come to Osmania General Hospital to get his pancreas treated. However, he unfortunately died.

The Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) volunteers found his mother and sister crying profusely due to their inability to pay for his last rites.

In no time at all, they completed all the formalities at the hospital, arranged for the last rites to be performed at Punjagutta Shamshan, and organized an ambulance to move the body.

His last rites were performed without hesitation by the organizers of the Punjagutta Shamshan.

In addition, the HHF volunteers moved the mother and sister to a shelter home and kept them safe there as they threatened to end their lives, unable to bear the sudden tragedy that hit them.

In his family of three, the young man was the sole breadwinner after getting a government job recently.

Similarly, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and a group of Muslims performed the last rites of a man who died of illness in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Sarathy, 45, of Kalmedu, died in a hospital Friday afternoon after suffering from kidney failure.

He separated from his wife and had a son and daughter who were in school. He had lived with his ageing parents, but they were ill as well.

Upon hearing of Sarathy’s death, Muslims in the area, including members of the Social Democratic Party of India and members of the jamath, arranged for his body to be taken from the hospital to his home.

His final rites and burial were also performed according to Hindu customs at the Kalmedu cemetery here by the Muslim men.
