Hyderabad: Police arrest six persons for attacking cab driver

On Monday, six persons were arrested by the city police under the Narsingi police station of the Cyberabad police for allegedly attacking a cab driver.

Currently, the motive behind the attack is unknown, according to the latest reports. The cab driver, Syed Lateefuddin, was chased by a group of six motorcycle riders in the early hours of Sunday as he was on his way to pick up a passenger.

According to him, they forced him to stop his car and then asked him to chant ‘Ji Shree Ram’. Boulders were thrown at his car when he refused.

At around 4:00 a.m., Lateefuddin, a Chandrayangutta resident, escaped to save himself and dialed 100. An hour later, police arrived on the scene.

After fleeing fearing for his life, Lateefuddin hid in the bushes and called the police emergency number 100. He said the men severely damaged the car before the police arrived. He reported that the men hurled abuse in Telugu at him.

To communicate the location of the incident, Lateefuddin took the help of locals. “According to the locals who helped me, there have been four to five similar attacks on Muslims in the area but the victims haven’t reported them to police fearing the consequences, but I decided to make a complaint,” Lateefuddin said.

In the following days, the victim and Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjedullah Khan Khalid filed a complaint with the police

According to reports, police officers initially identified the attackers through CCTV footage. In addition, they were reported to have stolen Rs 6000 from his wallet and some documents from his car.

Narsingi Police Station registered a case under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 295 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
