Hyderabad police bust racket providing fake degree certificates

As per the latest reports, the Hyderabad Police Department arrested ten people, including an assistant professor, and busted a racket that was selling fake education certificates.

On Tuesday, the Hyderabad Task Force raided an education consultancy in Mehdipatnam and arrested ten people for allegedly providing fake educational certificates to students in exchange for large sums of money.

Seven college dropouts who had purchased degree certificates, as well as two education consultancy operators from the city, were among those arrested.

Gunti Maheshwar Rao, the owner of the Pride Educational Academy in Kukatpally, is the main accused in this case and he colluded with the SRKU management. According to a report in The Times of India, the consultancy firms were assisted by Ketan Singh (34), an assistant professor at Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan University (SRKU), Bhopal.

A Srikanth Reddy, the proprietor of Sri Sai Educational Consultancy in Dilsukhnagar, was also arrested by the Task Force team.

The police also seized certificates issued by some universities in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh in collusion with the accused.

Based on the information, officials from the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone team and local police busted the racket and raided a fake educational consultancy called ‘Pride Educational Academy’ in Mehdipatnam.

The racketeers maintained a rate chart. They used to charge Rs 3 lakh for a B Tech degree, Rs 1.5 lakh for a B Com and BA degree, Rs 1.75 lakh for a B Sc degree, Rs 2.75 lakh for an MBA degree, and so on. There were no requirements for online/offline classes or exam attendance, and no other conditions apply.

“They used to target students who had failed or were unable to complete their education.  We have seized a number of fake certificates and other materials,” said CV Anand, Hyderabad Police City Commissioner, according to news agency ANI.

“Initially, discrepancies were discovered during the visa verification of those with forged certificates, and a couple of complaints were filed at respective police stations. Following that, teams swung into action and arrested the suspects,” CV Anand added.
