Hyderabad: Rains cause water logging issues in Osman Nagar

Residents in Barkas Nabil colony, dream city, and green city, Balapur areas are experiencing waterlogging due to heavy rains.

According to Ahmed Qasadi of Barkas, they experience waterlogged problems in the area every monsoon season. Overflowing water comes from Osman Nagar, Mallpur ka Talab, Balapur ka Talab, Kotamalli Kunta near Balapur, CPNR, Green City, Waris colony, Metro four, and then into their area.

“When the floods came to the city in 2020, we went to the AIMIM president, who informed us that Nala was being formed to prevent the waterlogging problems,” the resident said.

Another Waris colony resident said that they have been experiencing water-logged problems for almost three years. During this monsoon season, the water has been coming into the houses for three months. Since we’ve been here for 20 years, our kids are getting sick, and our house is in bad condition due to heavy rains, the resident said.

Despite numerous visits and attention from Ministers, political parties, and officials, flood-like conditions in Osman Nagar and Shaheen Nagar have persisted for the last three years during the rainy season.

Residents claim that hundreds of houses adjacent to the Osman Nagar lake are still submerged in water due to a lack of a proper pipeline system.

Despite the fact that the lands are in the Full Tank Level (FTL) zone, residents claim that the majority of the houses in the area have permissions and are registered. The government took no major initiatives aside from distributing Rs 10,000 to tenants, they added.

Several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have also visited the site and provided essential commodities to the residents as aid.

According to Muhammad Mazhar Ali, the area’s corporator, a three-foot pipeline has been constructed which draws the excess water and flows into the Mallapur canal. The pipeline construction has reduced water logging in the basthi and main road areas compared to previous years. However, due to the amount of work involved, completion will take some time.
