Hyderabad: Road development work to be finished by next year

According to the latest reports, the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) is set to complete the road development work in the city by next year.

Of 47 SRDP works, 31 flyovers, underpasses, grade separators, road over bridges (ROBs), and road under bridges (RUBs) have been completed, with the remaining to be completed shortly.

KT Rama Rao, state Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, said 31 projects, including 15 flyovers, underpasses (5), ROBs/RUBs (7), cable-stay bridge at Durgam Cheruvu (1), Panjagutta steel bridge (1), Panjagutta widening (1), and ORR to Medak Rehabilitation (1), had been completed and made available to the public.

KTR took to Twitter and said: Strategic Road Development Program #SRDP is changing the face of #Hyderabad road infrastructure. In Phase 1 of SRDP, 31 projects were completed & 16 more are being worked upon Phase -2 will be initiated soon.

Out of 16 road projects, 13 will be handled by the GHMC, and the remaining will be handled by the National Highways.

As per media reports, SRDP aims to cover major traffic corridors and activity centers, such as Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Hitech City, Kukatpally, Bachupally, Patancheruvu, Abids, and Chandrayangutta.

It is also worth mentioning that Hyderabad’s traffic junctions will be given a state-of-the-art makeover soon, civic officials have said. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is developing new innovative solutions to reduce traffic problems and accidents at road junctions.

GHMC said that the innovative redesign will increase convenience, comfort, and safety while minimizing the severity of potential accidents.

In the first phase, 12 traffic junctions will be built on an experimental basis, two in each zone, at a cost of Rs. 33 crores. After studying advanced construction methods in other countries, the program was launched.

The GHMC also stated that they are working to strengthen the city’s roads in order to address traffic issues.
