Hyderabad: Tension erupts over cattle transportation in Kishanbagh

On Wednesday night, tensions erupted in the Kishanbagh area after some people reportedly tried to stop a truck carrying cattle. In response, the police dispersed the crowd with force, preventing any trouble.

Reports indicate that cattle were being transported by container truck from Shadnagar to Ramnaspura slaughterhouse. After spotting the cattle, some people chased them from Attapur’s side. When Rajendranagar police found out about it, they also came to the spot.

Several people refused to allow the truck to leave, asking the police to shift and check the cattle at the cowshed, alleging that they were transported illegally. Truck owner and cattle traders said there were only bulls and calves, and permission was needed for transport.

A crowd began to gather at the location, prompting the police to call in reinforcements. Police from Bahadurpura, Hussainialam, and other police stations rushed to the scene. The crowd gathered at the spot was dispersed with mild force. The scene was visited by senior officials.

Mild tension prevailed at Chintalmet in Rajendranagar in February also, when a truck carrying cattle was chased by people belonging to a particular community claiming to be gau rakshaks.

In front of the Rajendranagar police station during Bakrid last year, several persons gathered in support of cattle traders who were being detained for shifting cattle to the city for Bakrid. Leaders of AIMIM intervened and resolved the issue.

Locals claim that Rajendranagar became hyperactive after a few local leaders of the BJP formed cow vigilante groups and targeted trucks transporting cattle to Ramnaspura slaughterhouse on various pretexts.

In February, violence was reported in Karmanghat after Gau Raksha dal members intercepted a vehicle carrying cattle. During the incident, stone-pelting and damage to police vehicles and public property occurred.  Four cases were booked in connection with the February 23 incidents.
