Hyderabad to face another heatwave; temperature to touch 45 degree Celsius

Hyderabad is likely to face another round of heatwave from Saturday onward, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates increases in maximum temperatures.

Despite summer rains that gave the city a respite from the stifling heat, the temperature is expected to cross 41 degrees and may even reach 45 degrees.

Orange alert or be prepared warnings for the city were issued by the weather department until May 9. These warnings indicate that temperatures will be between 41 and 45 degrees Celsius. In some parts of the city, however, rain or thundershowers are also possible.

In the past ten days, 90% of locations in the city have recorded daily temperatures of over 40°C, two degrees above prevailing temperatures of the corresponding period last year (April 20-May 1).

There may also be hotter-than-usual conditions in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Nirmal districts, as the IMD predicts temperatures may reach 46 degrees Celsius and no rain in these areas until May 9. These districts were also under a red alert from the weather department.

The city recorded maximum temperatures of 34.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday until 8:30 am and minimum temperatures of 20.4 degrees Celsius.

Maredpally, meanwhile, recorded 74.8 mm of rainfall. During this time, the city has also seen an increase in rain by 24 per cent. It has received 942.2 mm of rain against a normal of 756.4 mm, according to TSDPS.

At Ranjal in the district of Nizamabad, the maximum temperature was 44.2 degrees Celsius. In Angadi Kistapur, an 18 degree Celsius minimum temperature was recorded.

Telangana also saw an increase in average rainfall of 11.0 mm compared to normal rainfall of 0.3 mm per day. Yadagirigutta in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district received the most rain with 81.6 mm.

For weather warnings, the IMD uses four colour codes: green, yellow, orange and red alerts. Green means nothing needs to be done, yellow means watch and stay updated, orange means prepare, and red alert means take action.
