Hyderabad: Tourists disappointed by no musical fountain show at Hussain Sagar

The Musical Fountain Show at Hussain Sagar Lake, which captivated tourists during their visit to the city, is now nonfunctional.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) inaugurated the musical fountain show in February, enchanting large crowds who gathered every weekend between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

However, it appears that the show’s management could only run it for two months or less. The floating fountains became a tourist attraction in Hyderabad because they depicted a rare aqua scene that combined light, sound, and water.

The ‘water dance’ brought the Sunday Funday festivities to life, with people seen enjoying the fountain waves while dancing to the tunes of several groovy songs such as jai ho and naatu naatu.

The fountains, which cost Rs 17.02 crore to build, were designed to reach a height of around 90 meters. They were 180 meters long and 10 meters wide, and were outfitted with lasers.

Citizens, particularly those from other districts, were ecstatic to see the show streaming on social media and traveled to Hyderabad to watch it live, only to be let down.

Upset by the abrupt halt in the show’s operation, citizens took to Twitter to criticize the HMDA and the Telangana government for failing to provide prior notice of the halt.

A Twitter user named Syed Asif said, “We wait more than an hour to see the magic of Hussain Sagar musical fountain but not starting a show on Sunday 16th April. What happened anna. We travelled from outside the city to see it but went back in disappointment,” while he tagged Telangana IT minster KT Rama Rao on the post. While another Twitterrati posted an enquiry stating, “Musical fountain in hussain sagar is it open now? The last couple of weeks it wasn’t.”

This is not the first time that investments made to beautify and attract tourism in the city have been abandoned. The Mir Alam musical fountain, worth Rs 2.5 crore, is also in shambles.
