Hyderabad Water Board Implements Technological Solutions to Address City’s Water Issues

Sudarshan Reddy, Managing Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), announced that the board has requested the Telangana Police for access to Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) resources. This move aims to enhance monitoring of manholes and other water-related problems across the city using CCTVs and advanced technologies.

Reddy highlighted that rainwater stagnation points, identified as hotspots, total 125 in number. The city is equipped with a total of 576,000 manholes, including 39,678 deep manholes managed by HMWSSB. Recent initiatives include the installation and replacement of water grills throughout Hyderabad, accompanied by cautionary markings for improved visibility and safety.

“We have established 16 control rooms, each dedicated to emergency services in different divisions, operating round-the-clock with five-member teams,” Reddy stated. These teams promptly respond to incidents reported, complemented by support from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) control room.

The board has deployed approximately 220 mini and large air-tech machines to address sewerage pipeline blockages. Reddy instructed officials to operate these machines during nighttime in areas identified as hotspots for enhanced efficiency.

In terms of financial operations, HMWSSB generates an income ranging from Rs 100 to 120 crore, with approximately 70% allocated towards salaries. To further streamline public service, HMWSSB will launch the ‘Dial Your MD’ program starting Saturday, dedicated to addressing grievances related to drinking water, sewerage, billing, and other issues from 4 pm to 5.30 pm.
