Hyderabad Woman Arrested for Gold Necklace Robberies

In a recent event, Santoshnagar police arrested Rabia Begum, 45, for arranging a string of gold necklace robberies in Hyderabad. The accused, from Ramnaspura, was arrested in connection with ten attention diversion instances, and police were able to recover stolen items from her hands, including Rs 5.8 lakh in cash, a gold necklace, two pairs of rolled gold ear tips, and a mangal sutra.

On November 15, Rabia, clad in an abaya, went to see a local goldsmith named Ganapath Kumar in Santoshnagar. She stated she was going to mortgage a gold necklace (rani haar) weighing about 75 grams.

Following the appraisal, Ganapath offered her a Rs 2 lakh loan with a 2% interest rate. However, in order to obtain a cheaper credit rate, Rabia fled the shop with the ornament after the jeweller refused to comply. She returned after a brief absence, agreeing to the introductory interest rate and handing over her necklace to the jeweller in exchange for the money.

Ganapath only found the switch later, after Rabia had replaced the costly gold jewelry with a fake. The following day, he instantly reported the event to the Santoshnagar Police Station.

The South-East Zone Task Force Team, in coordination with Santosh Nagar Police, seized Rabia based on valid information. They retrieved the stolen cash and things from her possession during the arrest. Rabia confessed to similar crimes at two additional jewellers in the Charminar and Shalibanda neighborhoods in September after further investigation. Investigators also discovered her involvement in seven other crimes throughout the city.

Law enforcement officials in Hyderabad have asked jewellers to install high-resolution CCTV cameras outside their stores and to report any suspicious activity immediately. This latest arrest emphasizes the significance of monitoring and security measures in business establishments, especially in the face of criminals’ attention diversion methods.
