Hyderabad’s Charminar to Get New Parking Facility to Ease Congestion

In an effort to tackle the longstanding parking challenges around the iconic Charminar, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to conduct an immediate feasibility study for a new parking facility. The Chief Minister’s directive follows a proposal put forth by Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM chief and Member of Parliament (MP) from Hyderabad, calling for the development of a parking lot at the site of the old Charminar bus stand.

The Charminar area has faced significant congestion and parking issues for years, especially with the increasing number of tourists and vehicles in the vicinity. A multi-level parking project was launched seven years ago, following the demolition of the old bus terminus, but the project has remained incomplete, leaving the area struggling with inadequate parking facilities.

In response to this pressing issue, MP Asaduddin Owaisi suggested that the parking lot at the old bus stand site be developed without further delay. He emphasized that such a facility would provide designated parking for tourist buses and cars, helping to alleviate the severe traffic congestion that has long plagued the Charminar area.

“I have been requesting for years that a proper parking facility be built near Charminar, as it is a major tourist destination. This facility will not only ease parking woes but will also enhance the tourism experience in the region,” Owaisi said, highlighting the urgent need for action.

In addition to the parking proposal, Owaisi also suggested the initiation of a sky cable project connecting the Seven Tombs to Bala Hissar in Golconda, aimed at boosting tourism to the historic Golconda Fort. This aerial cable project is seen as an innovative way to enhance the tourism infrastructure and create a unique experience for visitors while promoting the rich heritage of the area.

In response to Owaisi’s proposal, GHMC officials have already conducted a site visit to the old Charminar bus stand to assess the feasibility of the proposed parking facility and the sky cable project. They are actively evaluating the potential for both initiatives and are expected to submit a detailed report soon.

The Chief Minister’s decision to move forward with the feasibility study is a significant step toward addressing the traffic congestion in one of Hyderabad’s most visited historical and cultural landmarks. The development of a much-needed parking facility is expected to ease the burden on both locals and tourists, facilitating smoother movement around Charminar.

Hyderabad residents and tourists alike are hopeful that these projects will transform the area, providing better infrastructure while preserving the historical charm of one of India’s most iconic monuments.
