Illegal Call Centre In Gurugram Dupes American Netizens; Busted

The police recently busted a group of people running an illegal call centre in Delhi NCR. The call centre were reportedly duping the American netizens after they posed as the Customs official.

Illegal Call Centre Threatened Americans

As per the reports, the police caught the illegal call centre operating in Udyog Vihar after a tip-off. The office was being run by two people from Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The police reported that the racketeers threatened the US citizens about them receiving wine and drugs through illegal means. Then they would ask them for their social security number on the promise of resolving the issue and charge them money via e-gift cards for providing their services.

The police said that the Social Security Number is a nine-digit number that the US Government provides to their citizens. It is used as a maintained data for every citizen for their work and lifetime earnings.

Racketeers Used SSN For Online Payments

During the raid at the fake call centre, the police seized some of the electronic gadgets used for duping people. They also arrested one of the accused who identifies as Ranjit Singh Rana from Udaipur, Rajasthan.

However, the co-owner of the call centre named Bhavesh Pankhi from Ahmedabad, Gujarat is absconding. The police also found some employees talking to the American citizens. But they were released after questioning.

The police has said that the investigation is still going on. An FIR has been registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the IT Act.
