Implementation of ‘Gruha Jyothi Scheme’ in Telangana Requires Data Collection

The execution of Telangana’s ‘Gruha Jyothi Scheme’, which promises free electricity for all families up to 200 units per month, necessitates data collecting from inhabitants.

Electricity bill collectors will request Aadhaar, PAN, food security cards, and unique service numbers during this process.

Under the initiative, clients with an average electricity consumption of less than 200 units will receive a zero-electricity bill, regardless of ownership. This implies that tenants will also benefit from the initiative. The collected data, which includes Aadhaar, PAN, and other characteristics, will be used to compute the previous year’s average electricity use, which will serve as the foundation for the initiative’s implementation.

The Gruha Jyothi Scheme in Telangana is modeled after the one in Karnataka, where nearly two crore individuals qualify for free electricity if their home consumes less than 200 units of power per month. The qualifying criteria for Telangana are expected to be similar, with consumers who meet certain prerequisites becoming eligible for the plan.
