Intense rain turns several colonies of Balapur and Jalpally into cesspool again

What is perceived as a clear indication about the impending threat to human lives around the water bodies especially at Osman Nagar and Gurram Cheruvu in Jalpally and Balapur areas, the recent intense rain has left hundreds of houses inundated again leaving people completely spellbound.

Several families at Osman Nagar were seen today moving to their relatives or rented space as a safe abode by vacating their submerged houses. People were seen venting frustration at the government and the local leaders for turning their lives into misery with only assurances and lip service to their issues for over a year.

Due to intermittent rains during the last three days especially on Wednesday night, several water bodies like Palle Cheruvu Odamgudda, Salkam Cheruvu, Umda Sagar Lake, Venkatapuram Lake, Burhankhan Cheruvu, Gurram Cheruvu and the Osman Nagar Lake has rejuvenated and brimmed again.

This has led to a deluge like situation in several colonies such as Bismillah Colony, Osman Nagar, Royal Colony, Ali Gulshan Colony, Nabeel Colony, Metro Colony, Shaheen Nagar and Kothapet abutting to Gurram Cheruvu and Osman Nagar Lake. All these colonies are considered as most affected areas where houses are again partially submerged and reminiscent of last year’s horrific deluge. Streets and approach roads in several colonies are also turned into quagmire.

It is said that years of unplanned expansion of habitations in Balapur and Jalpally areas in Rangareddy District has led to a poignant situation wherein the people especially living in several low lying colonies abutting to water bodies are bearing the brunt of consecutive rains and horrifying floods that turning these areas into vulnerable zones of seasonal diseases.

“Not much time has passed to witness a gradual receding of flood water into ground, the fresh incessant rains of Wednesday night have again pushed back our houses into deluge that leaves us completely dejected and depressed again. Houses were turned into fragile structures as they remained in the water for over a year and are now posing a grave risk to our lives,” said grief stricken Saood, a resident of Osman Nagar.

“Public representatives are making visits only during the period of disaster to watch the people moaning sans finding any permanent solution to the issue or atleast impromptu measures to bring us respite from the mayhem. We were left completely on the tender mercies of natural calamities and inclement weather like we are facing now,” rued Rubeena who lives in the same area.

Sensing the enormity, the Minister of Education Sabitha Indra Reddy visited today visited several rain affected colonies like Osman Nagar, Lenin Nagar, Mithula Nagar, Satya Sai Colony, Reddy Batteries, SLNR Colony, Sridhar Colony etc and instructed the officials to take appropriate measures on war footing to avoid any untoward situation like previous year.

Located on the North-Eastern part of the district, these two areas are known for several yawning water bodies called Gurram Cheruvu, Osman Nagar and Jalpally lakes to their closer that mainly fed by upstream lakes such as Braman Kunta, Brahman Cheruvu, Mamidi Kunta, Appa Cheruvu, Shah Shareef Kunta and Palle Cheruvu.

Meanwhile, the Jalpally Municipality has floated an emergency helpline number to address complaints from different rain affected areas. People, facing rain related issues in their colonies were told to dial the No.8309693118 to seek help from the municipality.
