Jagan hurt in knife attack at Vizag airport, police suspect it to be publicity stunt

Hyderabad : YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was attacked with a knife by a youth in the waiting lounge of the Visakhapatnam airport this morning. While Jagan sustained an injury on his arm, the assailant was overpowered by Jagan’s security guards and handed over to police.  The attacker was identified as J Srinivas, an employee of the airport. He reportedly approached Jagan on the pretext of taking a selfie with him while the latter was waiting to catch a flight to Hyderabad. He reportedly stabbed Jagan with a blade like sharp object used in cock-fights.

YS Jagan, who was on Padayatra in Vizianagaram District reached Visakhapatnam Airport to fly to Hyderabad for attending the CBI Court proceedings on Friday at Nampally. However, the man pulled out a knife from his pocket and pierced it into Jagan‘s hand. The police are interrogating the man. Jagan’s supporters alleged political conspiracy behind the attack and demanded that the State government explain how this happened to a VIP and that too in an airport.

DGP sees it as a publicity stunt by attacker

AP DGP Takur told the media that the youth, who attacked Jagan Mohan Reddy has a letter in his pocket. He did not reveal the contents of the letter, as it was just handed over to him by Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), who caught the culprit at the airport. Stating that the police were treating it as a case of ‘publicity stunt’ by the attacker, the DGP said the youth hails from Mummidivaram in East Godavari district. (NSS)
