Jalpally Lake ambiance chocked with garbage burning

Despite the fact that several water bodies in Hyderabad city and its outskirts have already disappeared due to brazen levels of encroachments and whatever left is at high risk of blatant incursions, no measures are being taken by the government to safeguard the water bodies especially in Maheshwaram constituency under Rangareddy district.

Just like Erra Cheruvu in Erra Kunta area – which was almost disappeared due to brazen level of encroachment, the pathetic state of affairs at Jalpally Lake hint at a similar fate if the issue of dumping and burning of garbage besides brazen levels of encroachments is not addressed immediately.

Despite notified by HMDA and tagged with an ID No. 3602, the dumping and burning of garbage with combustible material gone haywire on the banks of Jalpally Lake otherwise known as beautiful water body.

According to the survey done in the year 2013, the water body spreads over a full tank area of 274.725 acres with a water spread area of 167.480 acres. However, such was not the situation stands presently around the Lake as most of the banking areas have already encroached thereby gradually shrinking the Lake area.

Much of the embankment area of the Lake was filled with garbage while thick layers of smoke can be seen frothing out from the piled-up trash with combustible material every few minutes. With this, the whole ambient environment of the Lake was overpowered with stinking smell coupled with filth while the surface was covered with water hyacinth. This unhygienic and unruly state of affairs has turned the Lake area into unwholesome ambience.

However, the irrigation officials hiding behind the gripe that they could only brought the matter to the notice of revenue and municipal authorities as the department lack with executive power to put a pause to the unruly state of affairs at Lake area.

“Already the issue was brought to the notice of concerned revenue and municipal authorities of Jalpally as we by ourselves can’t move a muscle except taking the help from these two department that enjoys executive powers to punish the offenders,” said an irrigation official on the condition of anonymity.
