Jubilee Hills rape case: The accused recorded videos of their crime

In the Jubilee Hills gang-rape, the six suspects appear to have helped the police identify them with videos they took while committing the crime.

According to Police Commissioner C V Anand, they were able to piece together the sequence of events and confirm each suspect’s presence and actions thanks to CCTV footage from the pub, visuals from a bakery in Jubilee Hills where the suspects went twice before and after the crime, and most importantly, mobile phone videos shot from inside the Mercedes Benz and Toyota Innova.

The sixth accused had gotten down from the Benz and was not in the Innova when the gang-rape occurred. As a result, the police came to know of his presence thanks to the videos.

In spite of this, evidence showed he forcefully kissed the victim in the Benz, for which he was charged with Section 354 IPC (Molestation), 323 IPC (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 9G read with Section 10 of POCSO, which could result in a minimum five-year prison sentence, Anand said.

According to him, there are still a few aspects of the investigation to be addressed, including verifying whether the Innova was an official vehicle. He assured the public that the police would take all necessary steps to bring the juvenile offenders to book.

‘Euphoria’ was the name of the party. There was a fixed entry fee of Rs.900-1200. In order to join the party, the victim paid Rs.1300.

Jubilee Hills road no 40, behind Pedda Amma Temple, is where the crime took place.

The Commissioner stated that the party was non-alcoholic and that no evidence had been found of substance abuse or alcohol consumption at the pub or during the rape. Nevertheless, he said that the police would increase their monitoring of pubs going forward.
