In a landmark move, K Padmaja, the first woman officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), assumed the position of Principal Chief Operations Manager (PCOM) of South Central Railway (SCR) at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad. A trailblazer in her field, Padmaja joined the 1991 IRTS batch and holds bachelor’s degrees in Science and Education.
Prior to her new role, Padmaja served as the Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) of SCR and also held additional responsibilities as PCOM. Her illustrious career spans over 30 years of dedicated service in the Indian Railways, where she has excelled in various key roles including Assistant Commercial Manager, Assistant Traffic Manager, and Senior Divisional Safety Officer across different divisions of the SCR. At the headquarters, she made significant contributions in roles such as Chief Traffic Manager and Chief Passenger Traffic Manager.
In addition to her extensive experience within the Indian Railways, Padmaja has also worked as Advisor (Transport) for Godavari Fertilizers Co. Ltd and as General Manager of CONCOR in Hyderabad. Since July 2024, as PCCM, she has been instrumental in ensuring smooth passenger and freight operations, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and revenue growth.
Her appointment as PCOM marks a significant milestone for the South Central Railway, as she continues to inspire and pave the way for future generations of women in the Indian Railways.
