Renowned actress and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut, ahead of the release of her new film Emergency, has criticized Indira Gandhi, describing her as a weak personality. Kangana stated that she conducted in-depth research on the subject before reaching this conclusion. In the film, Kangana not only portrays Indira Gandhi but also takes on the role of director.
In an interview with a news agency, Kangana said, “My perception of Indira Gandhi was entirely different. I used to think of her as a strong personality, but my research revealed the opposite. She was a weak person who relied heavily on others, especially Sanjay Gandhi. She was constantly seeking validation, which became a significant source of her weakness.”
Kangana’s statement comes at a time when her film Emergency is set to release. The film depicts the events of the 21-month-long Emergency imposed in 1975. Kangana said she began working on the film with sympathy and admiration for Indira Gandhi, but her research led her to change her opinion.
