Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has strongly criticized both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over their failure to address the demands of the Backward Classes (BC) community through a comprehensive caste census. In a scathing attack, Kavitha accused both national parties of betraying the BC community and questioned their commitment to ensuring social justice.
Speaking to the media after submitting a detailed 35-page report to the BC Dedicated Commission Chairman, B Venkateshwara Rao, Kavitha questioned the legal sanctity of the caste survey, and called out Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for failing to conduct a caste census despite Congress having ruled India for over 55 years. She demanded that Gandhi explain why the caste census conducted in Karnataka under Congress rule had not been made public, calling it a deliberate attempt to withhold crucial data.
Kavitha also lambasted the BJP, accusing the party of historically being “anti-BC, SC, and ST” in its policies. She cited the BJP-led Central government’s affidavit in the Supreme Court, in which it categorically stated that it would not conduct a caste census, further emphasizing its lack of commitment to BC welfare.

“The BJP’s policies have consistently neglected the welfare of the BC community, and this bias is embedded deep within their ideology,” Kavitha stated, asserting that both Congress and BJP had failed to take decisive action for the betterment of the marginalized sections of society.
Kavitha also highlighted serious concerns regarding the ongoing door-to-door surveys being conducted as part of the caste survey, criticizing procedural gaps and a lack of necessary resources, personnel, and material allocated to the BC Dedicated Commission. She emphasized that the commission must be allowed to function independently, without political interference, to ensure a fair and accurate survey process.
Her remarks come at a time when the caste census is a hotly debated issue in Indian politics, with calls for comprehensive data on caste-based demographics to help address social and economic disparities. The BRS leader’s comments reflect growing frustration among regional parties with the handling of BC welfare issues by the national parties, and a renewed push for a caste-based census that could aid in targeted policymaking.
Kavitha’s statement, following her submission to the BC Dedicated Commission, is likely to intensify the ongoing political discourse on social justice and the caste-based classification in India.
