Kisan Congress Deplores Govt’s silence on minimum price to turmeric, Red Jowar

Hyderabad: Telangana Kisan Congress chairman Anvesh Reddy on Saturday deplored the silence of the State government with regard to providing minimum support price to turmeric and red jowar farmers of Nizamabad though they were agitating since the last 15 days.

Anvesh Reddy also said Nizamabad MP K Kavitha, who promised to come to the rescue of the distressed turmeric farmers, also failed to help them. He said the MP had also not given proper insurance to the farmers on the issue. Noting that several farmers organized “Vanta Varpu” program on the roads across the State as part of their ongoing agitation programs, he said his party was condemning the “illegal and arbitrary” arrests of the farmers by police.

Anvesh Reddy alleged that the ruling party leaders were trying to create unrest in the State by resorting to such illegal and undemocratic acts. He demanded that the State government give an answer. Noting that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had promised to procure turmeric from the farmers during pre-poll election campaign, he asked the Chief Minister as to why he remained silent on the issue. He also demanded that the State government immediately release all the arrested farmers and warned that they would teach a befitting lesson to the State rulers in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.(NSS)
