Kolkata Civic Volunteer Suspended After He Kicks Youth on Road

In the recent update, the Kolkata police has suspended one civic volunteer after a video of him went viral over social media. The video showed that the volunteer had pinned down a youth on the road and kicked him on his throat and chest in public.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Suspended Volunteer Immediately

As per the latest reports, Kolkata Police Commissioner Soumen Mitra had apologised for the incident. The police informed that the youth reportedly tried to snatch a purse from a women in public bus near the Ecide crossing of the South Kolkata on Sunday. However, the co-passengers caught him and handed him over to the police.

The volunteer shown in the video has been identified as Tanmay Biswas who mercilessly kicked the 20 year old youth after he had tried to run away from the clutches of the police. Mitra immediately suspected Biswas and apologised for his behaviour of the police. They said that they were shocked and embarrassed. They said that such behaviour by a member of their force was not expected. Following which, the civil volunteer has been suspended and an enquiry has been started into the matter.

As of now, the case has been registered against the Biswas and the traffic police officers on duty in that area. The two police officers on duty were summoned to the police headquarters on Monday.

Biswas Clarifies

Biswas in his explanation said that the entire incident happened because of a momentary decision and had no intention to take the law in his hand.

He said that he was trying to hold back the man so that he couldn’t run away. He was trying to call the police and hand him over to them. While his hands were engaged and in that moment he tried to push him on the road with his legs.

“I apologise for what has happened and would appeal to my seniors so that they don’t take any harsh decision against me,” Biswas added.
