KTR Demands Clarity from Government on New Criminal Laws

Amid a nation-wide debate over the recently enforced criminal laws, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao has called on the State government and the Congress to clarify their positions. Rama Rao emphasized the urgent need for an extensive discussion during the upcoming Assembly session, with the goal of passing a resolution to be sent to the Union government.

In an open letter addressed to the State government on Monday, Rama Rao highlighted strong objections from various sections of society regarding the new criminal laws. He stressed that many provisions in these Acts infringe on fundamental rights, potentially turning Telangana into a police-controlled state.

Rama Rao questioned whether the State government intends to implement these new criminal laws, which he described as autocratic and dictatorial. He urged the government to clarify its stance in the upcoming Assembly session, cautioning that Telangana has a long history of people’s movements against autocracy.

He noted that the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka have already voiced their opposition to the new laws. Rama Rao suggested that the State government should consider following their lead by either amending or opposing the central laws. He insisted that the Revanth Reddy government announce its decision immediately and urged them to write to the Central government to amend the dictatorial sections of the new laws.

Rama Rao also proposed that the State pass a resolution in the upcoming Assembly session and send it to the Union government. He warned that failure to do so would lead the people of Telangana to view the government as autocratic and anti-people. “The Revanth Reddy government should announce its decision immediately,” he demanded.
