Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao has urged the Centre to accord in-principle approval for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II Project, costing Rs 8,453 crore, as a joint project between the state and the Centre with external financial assistance.
In a letter to the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, KTR, as the Minister is commonly known, requested the inclusion of the proposal in the next union budget. A 26 km long and 23 station Metro Line is proposed.
To explain the project, he sought to meet with the Union Minister. On October 27, the Telangana government sent detailed project reports (DPRs) of the project (prepared by DMRC) and other related documents to the Centre to avoid delays in the processing of the project.
Hyderabad is the fastest-growing metropolitan city in terms of growth of the real estate sector in the last three quarters and since 2019-20, he said, adding that with the opening up of all the offices in a post-Covid scenario, it is important that public transportation be expanded and strengthened.
Phase-I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, which covers 69 km, was successfully implemented and is completely operational. In addition, it is the largest Metro Rail Project in PPP mode under the Centre’s VGF scheme, he said.

As a result, it was proposed to carry out the Metro Phase II project, which would begin at BHEL and end at Lakdikapul.
In addition to this corridor, a five-kilometer extension of the existing corridor 3 line from Nagole to LB Nagar with four stations was planned.
